Hi! I'm Cindy. Here's a little bit of info about me... This is my first ever blog page, and I admit that I cheated a bit and had my husband help me set it up! So needless to say it will be a work in progress :)
I'm in the MSN Nursing Ed program, the accelerated track, so I'm taking four courses this semester. I'm looking forward to this semester as the practicum will help me see what it's really like to teach in the real world! I come from a family of educators, and am even married to an English Professor, so teaching (and learning) are pretty much second nature to me :)
At the moment I am a Nurse Liaison for a Rehab in Arlington. I'm only working part time so that I can devote my time to school. My nursing background is in Critical Care. Although some days can be chaotic and exhausting, I love working in the ICU. I feel that teaching in a Critical Care Unit takes special caution, whether the learner is your patient, a family member, or another nurse. You are constantly having to adjust what you are teaching to the needs and level of the learner, keeping in mind that this is a highly stressful situation for them. I especially enjoyed precepting "new" nurses in the ICU, which is what lead me to pursue this degree.
I posted some information about my personal life in the section that says View My Complete Profile. Feel free to look it over if you have the time. Thanks for checking out my blog page. Hope you have a great day!
~Cindy

Your husband must come in handy when it comes time for final editing of papers. I'm no English professor, but I perform the same duty with my wife's papers and publications.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. The first semester I returned to school (after 20 years) I was told by my instructor that I would have to do a power point presentation at the end of the semester. I came flying home and asked my then 15 yr old daughter how to "do powerpoints". She said "Well Mom, first you have to buy it and put it on the computer." This is my second round of bloging; I had Dr. Anderson for a previous course in which we blogged. My preceptor is teaching an online elective course in Holistic nursing and the students are blogging. It is a great medium for keeping in touch, exchanging ideas with individual participants, and asynchronous group discussions. I look forward to reading more about your experiences. Diane
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you. So, I love the English language...Ask your hubby if he has ever read a book titled, Eats, Shoots, and Leaves. He'll get a big kick out of it!
Wow, you are busy. Working even part-time and taking 4 classes is a huge undertaking. I work full-time and take classes part-time but am still having trouble keeping up with everything.
Good luck in the course!
Sue
Hi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteThat is why they are called better-half, they become useful in such times. Great achievement, we all struggled the first time we were introduced to blogging, but the more I use the more friendly it has become. I admire your dedication in crushing the program fast and good luck.
